Well, once again............I have failed to update this blog regularly.

Since my last update I have:

-Had an eventful night filled with lovely lady friends, naughty games, dares at Barleys, fabulous foods, and gag gifts like no others. Yes...my bachelorette party was AMAZING.

- Spent countless hours with the help of Jenni B. and Mitchell making these...and other wedding decorations.

-after much labor and endless netflix hours we could no longer see our apt ceiling, and the garlands were all set for the wedding reception.

-We have...Practiced for our secret scooter entrance at the wedding. In the middle of the night with Miss.B and Mitchell. oh Steeple fun...

-Got married.

(I will hopefully have a more in depth post on the wedding celebration. We are incredibly happy and have the most amazing memories!)

-Finished my first Rotation at my main placement (zeee middle school), I LOVE my mentors there, and the students. I loook forward to going back soon.

-Almost finished my rotation at a local elementary. I am also loving my experience there. The kids are so funny, adorable, needy, quirky, creative, imaginative, and lovable. If I got a job at an elementary school, I would be far from unhappy.

-My high school rotation is coming up. *sigh

-Completely renewed our apt. new couch, new destination/layout for old furniture, new stuff (many gifts from the wedding), and newly painted desk! We are so happy here.

-Carved pumpkins with Malia, keaten, t-rav, scotty, and husband. Mitchell's pumpkin is a public service announcement. he is so creative. nurr (P.S. Malia is back, and this makes me happy.)

-That's all for now, but a good start.

Here we go...

Tuesday: I start my internship! I will be mentored by a wonderful middle school art teacher. I am super mega excited, ready for a hard but enriching year, a bit nervous (I'm not going to lie), a lot nervous, and hoping I survive this new and intense schedule. (I am also not looking forward to getting up early).

Wedding Planning: I feel like that is all Mitchell have been doing the past few days.

-Making Paper Flowers

-Making Paper Garlands

-Discussing a whole lot of everything

-and absorbing movies in the background

Mitchell's Birthday: Last week was Mitchell's Birthday week! This weekend we organized a surprise dinner for him, and of his family and my parents showed up. We had a blast. And he finally got his cookie cake. Of course, I've been chowing down on it all weekend, what a great pre-wedding diet.

Summer Classes: I could not have asked for a better summer schedule. I was worried once I started summer school that all my fun would be gone. Nope, the classes. teachers, projects, and classmates were perfect. I love love love my art education mates incredibly. We hangout outside of class, and I can tell we're going to grow real close this year. They could make any class bearable, and they;re going to make this year fun despite the intense pace of it all :)

More to come...I've missed updating this thing.

has been taken over by wedding decorations. I cant imagine what it will look like in a few weeks!

I have also begun dumpster diving for glass bottles, making purple paper, spilling glue on my coffee table, and trying not to panic. but I know every thing is going to be just fine

Other news, I got my placement in! Looks like I am headed to a middle school instead of Elementary. I am okay with that. Just wish I had a few extra days of vacation before it all begins.

So I have most def been behind in updating zee blog. But here I am with a list:

Tonight: After 9:00 PM- Lucie is officially done with undergrad. dun dun dun

This past weekend was the most lovely weekend:

-How To Steal A Million- yes, 1966 Peter O'Toole is my new crush.

-A visit from my future mother in law (with a nice mother's day celebration)

-Chinese Buffet sat by an aquarium of dying fish which did not help our appetite, but a good memory non the less.

-Psycho (yes, as you can see I am rediscovering the classics)

-My last painting critique as an undergrad. this made me sad. So many good times in the Art and Architecture building. UTK undergrad painting- you were good to me.

-O' Panera- bird calls with my coworkers, preceded to set off the alarm, and accidently punch my boss in the eye with cardboard boxes. a good shift.

-Seven Year Itch

-My bridal shower. what a perfect day! Sundresses, beautiful weather, the best of people, lovely delicacies, wine, bridal pictionary, silly poems, a cupcake bar (brought by future food network star Peach), and decorations all around. this was trully a perfect day.

-Late night pizza with the Truebloods and Pearces

-Going away buffet for Sebastien

-Evening with Sebastien, Jenni B, Mitchell and Charles our new garden/apt gnome, wine, endless amounts of seafood, and yes.....Footloose.

We ran across an amazing book sale at Books a Million and I bought a whole cart full of brand new books for dirt cheap. It was a mega deal, and I have been reading all night.

Friday: Work 3-close, snow storm warning. dun dun dun. everybody is terrified, Panera closes hour early, home, two Frenchmen join Mitchell and I at our apt during the "winter storm", we have a snow ball fight with them. I lost. then Mitchell and I watched LOST. we are officially obsessed. and only on season two.

Saturday: Sleepin, woken up with a phone call from my brother and some brilliant news, Am and Bastien are engaged!, Skype with the grandparents (love them/miss them), Skype with the parents, lay around in our snow lit apt, quick trip out to Ross (the snow will never stop me from Ross), off to Ben and Kates for a winterfest sleepover, the two Frenchmen come to join as does Mr.Suttles...good times at the Petler Inn

Sunday: Mitchell and I wake up to the smell of coffee and bacon at the Petler Inn, eggs in a basket were promised. this was probably one of the most scrumptidelicious Sunday breakfasts I have ever had. thank you Kate & Ben, Eli meets Oli, off to work in Knoxvegas but not without squeezing in an episode of LOST with Mitchell, and another before bed time to recover from an eventful weekend.

A List: of.... This Holiday Season thus far.

1. It's a Wrap: This Fall semester is a wrap. and so this means no more lamenting over my Shakespeare class, I will spare your ears. I have somehow earned an A- in this class. How? I'll never know. But I am okay with that. It is also a wrap with our Christmas shopping. We are all done, and we have made some of our gifts too, this meant lots of tea, outings in Knoxvegas stores, Christmas music, paper cutting, and staying up late with Mitchell these past few days.

2. Feelin' the warmth: The Panera warmth that is. I've been hanging out with my Panera mates off and on, and I love those guys and would love this to happen even more often. I have also asked for a raise. go me. and I have a wonderful holiday schedule ----> One Night five hours. Thank you Panera, I am feeling the warmth.

3. Winter Wonderland: Nope, not in Knoxvegas. Just cold cold rain in Steeple Swamp. The Winter Wonderland I speak of is in my living room. As Mitchell and I have been decorating like mad crazy. Our first tree, first ornaments, first stockings, first garlands, and paper snowflakes have taken over.

4. Gather: Mitchell's family will be meeting in our very wee apt Christmas Day! I am very much looking forward to this. Our fridge is packed to the max, and we are growing chubbier and chubbier as we eat the chocolate that lines our pantry. As for Christmas Eve, my beloved brother Bastien and the lovely Amber, Mitchell & I, and his amazing parents will gather at my parent's house, which is also currently a winter wonderland as my mother has the touch of Martha Stewart. I am uber pumped about the gatherings. Mitchell's parents will be here tomorrow, hoorah!

5. Stocking Night: As previously mentioned, this year Mitchell, Eli, and I have stockings for the first time ever together. And so instead of waiting until Christmas Day/Eve like most people, Mitchell and I decided to make our stocking night December 19th. every year from now on.
What Happened: We waited until midnight. Went to Walmart, time limit=30minutes, had to be sneaky sneaky not to run into each other, came back home, filled our stockings, opened a bottle of cheap champagne, opened our stockings, and watched Home Alone II. It was fantabulous fun, and I plan on doing it next year. Below is a picture of Eli searching his stocking.

6. Fa ra ra ra ra: We have been watching Christmas movies like mad crazy. (i've used mad crazy alot in this post), today my parents came over and we made a delicious lunch, endulged in massive quantities of chocolate including a Kinder Surprise from my dad!, and watched A Christmas Story. It was a grand day.

Today was my last day of class for Education Psychology. I can't say I have ever grown to like a class this much in the Education program at UT. Willard, music kids, intriguing discussions, Cheez-Its & a more than wonderful teacher Liz. I hope to stay in contact with her. You know it's a good class when you get super sad during the final day and hug your teacher at the end. I hope I can have the same effect on my students some day.

as for Shakespeare. I can't wait to part with you.

Friday: Work 6-2, prepare for church holiday craft show, trip to Motown with Eli and Mitchell, dinner with Maman et Papa, evening with Ben & Kate, Brandon, Attila, and Luke. Variety pack of beer & Trapped in the Closet. oh no!
Saturday:Craft Show with mom at St.Patrick's Church, very long day but quality time and food with mom and fellow crafters (our stand neighbors), home with the boys, family dinner, scrumptidelicious steaks, potatoes, and veggies. yum yum, and then we decided to play life.

LIFE (Destin).
Lucie: Fast path, rockstar with a low salary, one boy, one girl, twins, participated in the Olympics,won the Nobel peace prize ----> did not win game.
Mitchell: University path, crappy sales job, decent salary, credit card debt, no kids, impressed us with his french skills, also wins Nobel peace prize----> did not win game.
Maman: Fast path, athlete, participates in Olympics, also plays role of banker throughout our game, very competitive with dad, owner of Rolls Royce-----> did not win game.
Papa: University Path, First a Pilot, decent salary, then a scientist, same salary, buys almost all of the life insurance, wins money with his kids, accumulates massive amounts of money, a hilariously competitive and animated player--------------> Winner.

Sunday: Breakfast with fam, drive back to Knoxvegas, Panera shift, The Office and dinner, sleepsies, Harry Potter, SLEEEEEEP.

I am so ready for Holiday Festivities. School you may be over now. now is a good time.

I love checking off accomplished tasks. Sometimes I love it so much that I actually write out the word "check" instead of actually using a check mark. Circling is also satisfying. I also keep them in a box when I am finished. sometimes things don't get checked off----> no good.

I can't wait to check off this latest to do list. I think I might write "check" circle, underline, star, and use a check mark for finishing my Shakespeare paper that is due Tuesday and that I have to dominate tonight due to work and other school work.
I am currently procrastinating by writing this post. oops

I have been really bad about updating Lu n' Am, thank goodness Am has been the faithful one to our blog. But I did write a post today, whew it's about time. My mom has been productive in the crafting world. She has just made Am and I some wall art. We were inspired by an example in a Knoxvegas boutique. I love this new addition to my apartment, and now I have no need for a new headboard for our bed. Read more about it here.

Today I picked leaves with Eli. I had to go pretty far to find the perfect tree because all of the leaves at steeple-swamp are still painted green or just brown & full of holes.
But I found this one tree. The perfect little tree hidden on a hill where I almost ate it in my super cool dollar tree animal print flip flops being pulled in every direction by my super cool untrained dog.
But I succeeded and these fallen leaves are displayed on a plate with my chestnut & pumpkin candles.
I am sipping some "Autumn Pear Tea", and I cannot taste the Autumn or the Pear but the box it came in is fabulous. so I am pretending I can taste both.
did I mention I love Autumn and Eli?

Wed: Sleeping in followed by a nice autumn walk with Eli, Work at Panera, and an evening/morning of Bota Box and chattering with Peach

Thursday: visit to Motown, crafts with Martha Stewart of France (maman) all afternoon, dinner with parents and Mitchell-delicious as always, and a trip to The Petler Inn where we spent the rest of our evening with kind hosts Ben & Kate, and the belated birthday boy, Brandon eating birthday cake and watching Pet Sematary. We learned that the soil in a man's heart is stonier.

Friday: Wake up at the Gilot house, breakfast and tea, more crafting, washed my car (woo), headed back to Knoxvegas to get ready for our visit with Anne and Michael. Drive to The Great Cleve Land, Tako Yaki! "Taste like the inside of an old car", we all failed to catch the ball of rice thrown by our robot chef, Annie and Michael surprise us with a Congrats ice cream cake for our engagement, super sweet, skype with Brad and Shirley, Washington washington, sleepsies time

Saturday: Eggs, Bacon, Toast, & Coffee with Annie & Michael, meeting with Socks, Apple Festival!, despite the cold we enjoyed the fall festivities, we meet Sasha and Gabe, corn dogs and ribbon fries, world's largest furniture store followed by world's cutest coffee/tea shop, Target, Brittany & Roger arrive, Michael's work party consisting of buzzy folk, cheese throwing with brit, lots of ridiculously loud karaoke (Roger was the main entertainer) - quite a memorable night. Pizza at the Trueblood home, Roger and Brit become our servants and sleep at the foot of our bed (what?)

Sunday: Exhausted from previous night, goodbyes, drive home, drive to pick up little Eli, drive back to Knoxvegas, clean, grocery shopping, bought a pumpkin and some mums!, wishing I could go eat sushi with Ben and Kate, cleaned out my closet no more summer clothes!, get ready for another school week. study the Merchant of Venice. excited about bed time.

Mitchell and I are engaged!

It happened this Saturday. We were in our tiny little apartment just being ourselves (very silly). Then Mitchell got a little more serious on me telling me to close my eyes. It was very hard for me to keep them closed and stop giggling from our previous silly mood, but then I felt a ring on my finger...and sure enough a "Will you marry me?" came right after that. and then a "yes! yes! yes!" I am a very lucky girl, and I could not have asked for a more perfect proposal- a simple and beautiful moment kept between the two of us (and Eli) in the comfort of our home.

And so it's "official", I will be marrying this man. :) goodness

Yesterday I walked into my musicology 220 class thinking that this would be an interesting course to take as my "Writing Course" requirement. Little did I know that you had to be an expert in music theory. After failing to analyze a minuet from the 18th century, I decided to...drop.

Tomorrow morning, Mitchell and I are in for a long ride back to TN. Our visit here in Iowa has been a blast as it always is. Pork tenderloins, sweet corn festival, Marion square walk, shirley's chicken casserole, road trip through most of the state, beautiful weather (we seem to bring that with us every trip), teasing Mitchell's dad, tea with shirley, a very comfy and cozy room with incredible sleep, more than perfect hosts (Shirley and Brad), coffee and nutella croissants, the usual Kalona visit (cheese curds are a must), relaxing naps with Chloe, and the beautiful Iowa landscapes. I love coming here.

Wednesday, August 18th will mark the beginning of a new (and last) fall semester at the University of Tennessee. I have had such a wonderful vacation-packed summer.

I just got back from a very eventful and fun filled adventure in Charleston, SC. Mitchell and I met up with Amber, Bastien, Sebastien ( and Nick, somehow managed to fit into Bastien's non air conditioned car along with all of our camping gear, and were off for our adventure.

A list (because I love them) of the best of this trip:

My trip was amazing and I have so much to share with this blog...in fact I am feeling a wee overwhelmed at this point. I will probably make three posts related to my trip to France one for each region I spent time in. La Bretagne, Les Vosges, and Le Nord. (I will try to post something soon)

Other news:

I have just turned 22. It was a wonderful birthday weekend spent with a visit from Michael and Anne, a trip to Asheville for mussels and frites with brother and Am. And tea with my parents on my new cafe table. :) I also recieved some very sweet mail. I love tangible mail.
I have started work again, I am in desperate need of some moolah. Panera is a friendly place though.
I have forgotten how hot and humid it is here in Tennessee.
I am finally cured from what I think was Bronchitis.
I miss my family in France terribly.
I am worried I have forgotten how to paint, it's been too long.
I have started a tea pot/anything related to tea collection and I'm excited. I am obsessed and probably drink too much tea.
I kissed my friends pregant belly this weekend. fascinating.
I will be going to Charleston with brother and Am first week of August.
I have a leak in the corner of my apartment near my water heater and air conditioning unit. No one seems to be fixing it everytime they come. ugh.
I want to repaint a wall in my apt. I've regreted the color I picked the minute I paid for it.
I was introduced to my new favorite band Man Man (Thank you Ben & Kate)

Chumba Cruise

I have just returned from a short but very sweet voyage to Key West and Freeport, Bahamas on the MS Holiday ship.

This was my first cruise, and I adored it. I have just spent five amazing days on a boat thanks to a wonderful family, a ridiculously friendly crew, unbelievable weather, massive amounts of scumptilicious food, a mysterious Maitre D', and two lovely islands. Brad and Shirley, thank you a million times over and over for making this trip possible.

I always always stress at the end of a semester, and my procrastination is key to this stress. And my procrastination has been quite ridik this semester. Maybe it's because all I can think about is this cruise I am about to go on, and my trip to France. Summer here I come, I think I am actually already there, which is bad news for my grades.

Here is a picture of the birthday banner I made for my mom mentioned in the earlier entry. These are super easy to make and take little time. Just find the letters you want on the internet, (I usually just got to google search image and type: letter H or letter A...etc), print the ones you like and need, glue them on colorful paper/notecards are sturdier, tape them on a string and voila!

Cookies and Tea are a must when mom comes for a visit. always.

Today is a very special day for it is my sweet mother's birthday.

I've made her a little happy birthday banner, bought her a gorgeous plant, and although I would never have the skills to make her that beautiful of a cupcake as pictured above I did make her some tea and unwrapped a box of sweets to go along with that. She is on her way right now and we are going to create a mini garden together in my wee apartment, make dinner and have a sleepover~ and I am going to tell her how much I love her over and over and over again.

DIY paper puppets/doll

I've had a project due in my art education class that I've been putting off. we had to make paper stick puppets/dolls. So I decided to make a paper me as an astronaut. This was so easy to do, I highly recommend this activity if you are unbelievably bored, flooded with creative energy, or looking for a project to do with kids.

Just draw your body, legs, arms...etc on paper (cut them out, separating them at the limbs so they can bend) (if it isn't sturdy paper, glue cardboard on the back to make each part stronger), and then I stapled my limbs together. although I'm sure there are tons of other methods out there, but staples do work.

This paper puppet is pretty big, and I think "I" (the paper astronaut) will be wandering throughout this apt. I am currently floating on the fridge.

I received a ginormous variety box of Boston's tea from my mom for Christmas. As a tea addict, I have sadly finished almost all of them (which were scrumptilicious), and still could not part with them entirely. I loved the little designs that came on their individually colored packaging, and so I decided to make little tea flags out of them and hang them in my kitchen.

All Moved In!

Mitchell and I have had a very busy last couple of weeks. We now have a new home! We love our very wee apartment and it is coming together rather nicely. I will be posting pictures soon. I am looking forward to having some down time in our new home after the New Year and before the new semester starts.
Christmas was so wonderful. I spent Christmas Eve with my family, mom always cooks the most scrumptious dinner and it usually starts at 8 and ends around midnight. This year it went something like this..

-Smoked Salmon (I used to call this my favorite "ham" when I was little)
-Coquille St.Jacques
-Lamb with side dishes
-Assortment of fromage!!! eep!
-Creme Anglaise & chocolat

Taboo, Three Philosophers, Midget hands, cheap champagne, excellent food, Skype conferences with family in France, six adults roaming the Gilot house with uncontrolled excitement and emotions, and the lottery of presents....eep what a goofy and memorable night.

And now it's time for another Christmas with Mitchell's side of the family. oooh so exciting. gosh I love the holidays!

It is 6 AM and I am absolutely restless. Lack of sleep has caused me to write a rough draft of my artist statement and really think about this series of new assemblage paintings I have been working on.

In doing so I have discovered that there is an art movement currently going on...that is creepily similar to the my current work.
I obviously did not pay much attention in the multiple art history classes I have taken for I do not remember learning about pop surrealism also described as the Lowbrow art movement.

Anyways, this is a great discovery to me.

1. When I was wee I owned an elephant. He was always with me.

2. I like to smell my hand...theres this certain smell (only sometimes) that reminds me of my childhood
My roommates made fun of me for a while, but now Lisbeth says she understands and finds herself smelling her "childhood hand" at times.

3. I am in love with Jerry Maguire. No, not Tom Cruise. Just Jerry.

4. When I was wee, I used to ride around on my bicycle and listen to classical music on my cool tape player.

5. My brother and I used to watch Doug religiously our first year in the States, even though we didn't understand a word of what they were saying.

6. I used to have really thick ugly bangs in middle school. They were ridik.

7. I was a big fan of Nancy Drew books. Then she started getting on my nerves. She was too... perfect.

8. I don't know if I want to be a teacher anymore.

9. I went through a MD 2020 phase my freshmen year of college. I don't know what I was thinking. I am currently on a PBR kick (no shame in that one). so classy.

10. The ocean that separates me from my family in France saddens me.

11. I am a big fan of thrift store shopping. Love it. Although, 90% of what I buy never use or wear.

12. Oceans scare me. They are too big. I don't like them. I mean I do... but I don't.

13. My favorite number is 8. I find it very appealing.

Etsy is very dangerous for a poor college girl who should be saving money and finding a part time job asap.
I just bought an Owen Sherwood Print, eeep! I am so very excited about it. The Thunb print... he and his wife are selling many beautiful prints for affordable prices. God Bless America & Vive la France

At the age of seven, my family and I packed our bags and moved from Epinal, France to Sevierville, Tennessee. Although I am quite the Americanized French girl, I have held on to my roots. I am an artist. I am arrogant. I drink too much wine, and I carry a white flag with me just in case I need to surrender. This move has had a great impact on my life, and is reflected in my work. In this series, I have explored the different stereotypes people have of the United States and France. By having a foot in each country, I have heard both American and French people utilize these stereotypes when referencing to the other country. I find it important for people, including myself, to have a sense of humor and be able to stand back, poke fun of ourselves, and understand where these stereotypes come from and their importance or lack thereof. Some of my paintings illustrate real people, and if we look at these people, we might just be able to see how ridiculously stereotypical they are. Some of these walking stereotypes run our countries, represent our pop culture and our history, and some may even represent a perfect depiction of our next door neighbors. These stereotypes represent oversimplified conceptions, opinions, and at times humorous imagery. At the same time, some of them relate to important issues that play an active role in both cultures.

Our little "puppy son" *as Mitchell likes to call him* got sprayed.
And although it was at a not so convenient time *right before a sickly girls bed time and Mitchell's study session for his philosophy exam....I have to admit that minus the horrible stench...we had some good laughs.

New Semester begins...

and now, prepare for the closest thing to a real journal entry I have written in a long time...

Fall 2008 semester is about to commence, and I am:
- Going to be spending about 75% of my time in the picture above.
- Taking 19hrs of classes
(Photography, Studio Painting, Drawing something, Art Ed 303, 350, and a Special Education course)
-Dreading my last couple semesters, for I have saved my least favorite classes for last, what good planning on my part! Speech and Math here I come! *vomits
- Getting ready for my art show (October 17th) this will be my main focus this semester
- Looking for a study abroad program, whether it is an internship when I am done with UT (1 more year and a semester) or just an undergrad program or maybe even a Volunteer program-everyone one of those options will probably cost an arm and a leg.
- Going to be moving into a new apt or small house keeping those fingers crossed for a small cheap house and yard for little Eli ... this will be around Christmas
-going to be meeting a little baby (Kimberly's little "Strawberry" is due this September)

My summer has been amazing, one of the best. I think I always say that though...highlights include:

-My 21st Birthday... great night, rough morning
-Anne's wedding, a very memorable & busy week. :)
-Art camps, all three of them.. always makes me feel that I am on the right path in picking art education as second major. eventhough making a life size Palm tree out of cardboard was not my favorite thing to do.
-The Beach, Cape San Blas. What a trip....I think this may just be my favorite highlight.
-Vanessa's visit which is an entire two months of my summer and is currently still on the go. I have really bonded with my little cousin..she's a good girl.
-Les Bracquemart, guaranteed fun with that family, and pure sadness when they leave.
-Les Delcours visit....currently happening.
-Lu n' Am is born
and more....for this entire summer was packed to the max, and it's been a good one indeed.

I woke up from my afternoon nap and my mum was listening to this, and it was good music to wake up to. Upbeat, lovely voice, and quite creative.
